HOW TO CHECK STORAGE ON YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT, CREATE ADDITIONAL SPACE

November 17, 2020

Google users can get an estimate on how long their storage may last based on how often users backup photos, videos, files, and other content to their Google Account. Since user’s storage is shared across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos, users can check how much storage they have used upon their Google account by checking it from Google Photos, Gmail or Google Drive. Users can decide if they want to free up space or consider paid options to buy more storage.

— First, go on the profile account picture on the right-hand side on Google Photos, Gmail or Google Drive.

–Select Manage Your Google Account > Account Storage.

— Here you can see the total data used up on Google storage bifurcated into Gmail, photos and drive.

— Free up account storage from Get your space back section.

— Here you will see deleted files from Google Drive, emails with large-sized attachments and spam emails that you can clear to create additional space.

–Select review and free data.

Alternatively, users can directly go to https://photos.google.com/storage to check available storage on Google account.

David Lieb, Product Lead of Google Photos said that every Google account comes with 15GB of free storage which means that more than 80 per cent of Google Photos users will be able to keep uploading content for about 3 more years before running out of space.

Earlier this week Google announced a change capping storage data for high-quality photos and newly uploaded content on Google Photos starting June 1, 2021. All existing HQ content remains exempt from storage quota, including all HQ content uploaded between now and then.

Lieb noted that before this change takes effect, Google will be launching some new tools that make it easier to identify and delete content that you don’t want to store, like dark, blurry photos, long videos, and more.

If users feel that their storage data is being used up, they can consider paid options which are as follows:

100GB: This storage plan by Google comes for Rs 130 a month and for Rs 1300 a year. This plan brings 100 GB storage, extra member benefits, option to add family members and access to Google experts.

200GB: This storage plan by Google comes for Rs 210 a month and for Rs 2100 a year. This plan brings 200 GB storage, extra member benefits, option to add family members and access to Google experts.

2TB: This plan comes for Rs 650 a month and for Rs 6500 a year with additional benefits remaining the same. Google gives VPN services for this plan in the US and is likely to expand it to India.
